Do you dream of "the big catch"? In Lofoten, you have a real opportunity to get both one and several big fish on the hook! The entire Vestfjord is full of good fishing spots. The outer side of Lofoten probably has the very best fishing spots, but also in the streams Nappstraumen, Moskenesstraumen, Sundsstraumen, Gimsøystraumen and Henningsværstraumen there are great chances of catching cod, saithe and halibut. No matter the wind direction, you will always find a sheltered place.
If you love fishing in freshwater, there are plenty of opportunities in Lofoten. You will find good fishing lakes along forest roads and at the feet of the mountains. Fishermen's cabins and boat rentals
In Lofoten, there are many fisherman's facilities in different price ranges and standards. The feeling of living in an authentic fisherman's cabin must just be experienced. Fishermen's cabins were originally used by fishermen who went out fishing for skrei (cod) in the old days. Most facilities have upgraded authentic fisherman's cabins, so you sleep well and have a fully equipped kitchen. If you prefer modern fisherman's cabins, many fisheries cabins with a high standard have been built in recent years. At Hemmingodden Lodge you will find both authentic and modern fisherman's cabins.
Good gutting facilities
If you have caught a lot of fish and the weather is not perfect, it is good to gut and fillet the fish indoors. You can put down your coffee cup, chat with the other guests, and brag about the big fish you got! Facilities that have boats for rent always have a facility for gutting and filleting the catch. Some have it indoors, and some have it outdoors, and the vast majority have freezers where guests can store their catch.
Central location
It is easy to get to Lofoten by plane, boat or car. If you like to stay in a central place with a short distance to most things, Ballstad is a good alternative with its location in the middle of Lofoten. Here you will find a grocery store and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Within an hour's drive, you reach Svolvær, Henningsvær, Moskenes and Reine, to name a few of the great places here.
